A Story We All Know
written and illustrated by Sarah Stark
(new, unpublished graphic memoir)
With her own simple line drawings, A Story We All Know chronicles the author’s condensed journey from stargazing teenager to married woman in the short span of six years .
She dreams of becoming a diplomat and traveling the world, and yet puts those dreams aside to plan a giant wedding at age 24.
The story is set amidst the materialism, misogyny and extremist Christian values that ran rampant in Texas in the 1980s and 90s.
These panels give a flavor of the storytelling voice and the illustration style of the entire work.
